Age Limit for UGC NET 2024
- JRF: Not more than 30 years as on 01.06.2024.
- Assistant Professor/ Admission in Ph.D: No Age Limit
Educational Qualification:
- Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized university (list available at UGC Portal)
- Minimum marks:
- General/Unreserved/EWS: 55%
- OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender: 50%
- Final year Master’s students can apply provisionally (must complete the degree within 2 years for JRF or 1 year for Ph.D. eligibility).
- Ph.D. holders with a Master’s completed before September 19th, 1991 get a 5% relaxation (50% marks eligibility).
- 4-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 75% marks (or equivalent grade) allows appearing for NET but only qualifies for JRF and Ph.D. admission (not Assistant Professor).
- Final-year students of a 4-year bachelor’s program can apply provisionally (must complete the degree within specified timelines based on qualification).
- Candidates with a 4-year bachelor’s degree can appear in any NET subject for Ph.D. irrespective of their bachelor’s discipline.
UGC NET June 2024 Exam Format Summary
Exam Mode: OMR Based (fill in circles on a sheet)
Number of Papers: Two (no break between papers)
Paper I (100 Marks, 50 Questions):
- Focuses on teaching and research aptitude
- Tests reasoning, comprehension, thinking skills, and general awareness
Paper II (200 Marks, 100 Questions):
- Subject-specific (based on your chosen subject)
- Tests your knowledge of the chosen field
Languages: English & Hindi (except for language papers) – Choose carefully during application (cannot be changed later)
Marking Scheme:
- Each question: 2 marks
- Correct answer: 2 marks
- No negative marking for wrong answers
- Unanswered/unmarked/reviewed questions: 0 marks
- Choose one answer per question
- Incorrect/ambiguous questions with attempted correct answers: Awarded marks
- Incorrect/dropped questions: +2 marks for those who attempted
